Bill Ramsaur, President of the Marshes of Glynn Chapter served as the moderator of the Ceremony. Lt. Eric Dean, Battalion Chaplain, 3rd Infantry Division, United States Army from Fort Stewart, Georgia offered the Invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by David B. Dukes, Sr., Southeast Region Vice-President of the Georgia Society and President of the Altamaha Chapter.
Greetings were offered by Col. George E. Thurmond, a member of the Executive Committee, National Society SAR; Susan D. Lemesis, Vice-Chair Commemorative Events, National Society DAR; and George H. Wheeless II, President, Georgia Society SAR. Drum and fife Revolutionary era musical selections were played by Jamie Kenna and Sam Horton from Savannah.
The Georgia Society SAR Color Guard, led by Commander Paul Prescott, were joined by representatives from the Wayne County High School Air Force JROTC from Jesup under the command of Master Sergeant Melvin, and provided an impressive Presentation of the Colors.
The Georgia Society Colonel Elijah Clarke Militia, led by Commander Charlie Newcomer and. Revolutionary War re-enactors from the Second Company Georgia Artillery, Continental Army and the British Light infantry Company, 33rd Regiment of Foot, honored the memory of the defenders of Fort Morris and other Liberty County Patriots with a Musket Salute followed by a Cannon Salute. Taps was played by Kevin Morris, a student at Wayne County High School in Jesup.
The Wayne County High School Air Force JROTC formed an arch for an impressive presentation of thirty wreaths by representatives of the U.S. Army, Third Infantry Division; Georgia and Florida Societies SAR; National, Georgia and Florida State Societies DAR; Colonial Dames XVCII; Thirteen SAR Chapters, Eleven DAR Chapters and descendants of Liberty County Patriots.
Attendees at the Historic Sites Celebration enjoyed a Hospitality Hour and dinner at Love’s Seafood in Richmond Hill on Friday evening and lunch at Sunbury Crab Company on Saturday after the Ceremony. Comments about the ‘Liberty Boys” were presented by Ed Ginn, Historian of the Marshes of Glynn Chapter. The location of the restaurant in Sunbury on the Medway River is where the port of the Georgia Navy Galleys was located during the Revolutionary War.
Arthur Edgar, Manager of the Fort Morris Historic Site, expressed his appreciation to the Georgia Society SAR for outstanding participation in this year’s 228th Anniversary Celebration of the "Come and Take it!" Celebration.
This Celebration commemorated Continental Army LtCol. John McIntosh's defiant reply to a British demand for surrender, "Come and Take it!" on November 25, 1778, and honored the Revolutionary War Defenders of Fort Morris and other Liberty County Patriots.
