The contest, named for George S. & Stella M. Knight, is open to students in their sophomore, junior or senior years of study in
public, parochial, or private high school (including home schools). The essay must be about a person, event, or idea connected
to the American Revolution or the making of the Constitution. The National Society, SAR, establishes the general contest rules
and other details. These are available on line and are revised after each National Congress. Georgia Society chapter chairmen and
interested students should visit:
www.sar.org/youth/knight.html for Contest rules and guidelines.
The Contest takes place at
three levels: Chapter, State Society, and National Society. Students must enter the contest through their
nearest SAR
Chapter. The Georgia Society’s prize for the winning essay is $500. Individual Chapters may also provide a prize or other form
of recognition.
Chapter deadline: 8 Feb 2008. Chapter chairmen or presidents
must ensure that their chapter's winning essay reaches the state chairman by that date.
This means that Chapter deadlines for
entry must be early enough to allow time for judging and mailing to the State Committee. Each Chapter President should select
a Chapter Contest Committee in August so that timely contact with schools can be made regarding the Knight Essay Contest.
The Committee Members for
this year are:
